how do i solve this linear equation: 2x + 4 = 3 - 5x

Re: solve problem

you are attempting to determine the value of x that satisfys the equation.
Typically we attempt to get x on one side of the = sign and non x terms on the opposite side

2x+4=3-5x
add 5x to each side of the = sign
7x+4=3
subtract 4 from each side of the = sign
7x=-1

we now know what 7x equals but we want to know what x equals
divide both sides of the = sign by 7
x=-1/7 answer
