I'm totally stuck with these four problems. Might anyone help?
1. Multipy (y^(m-4)) (y^(m+9)) (y^(-2m))
2 Mulitply (x^(m))^(-4) (x^(3))^(m) (x^(m+6))
3. Divide a^(n-3) / a^(n-7)
4. Divide m^(x-8) / m^(x-6)
I'm a bit lost with these. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I suggest you read Read Before Posting.
In any case, we prefer one problem per thread.
It also helps to give us a little bit of information about yourself, such as age, educational level etc. so we can fit our answer to your needs.
We want you to show your work or at least explain what ideas you have: we do not give answers; as our name implies, we give help.
These problems all involve the laws of exponents.
You have to memorize these laws.
\(\displaystyle \lambda^0 = 1.\)
\(\displaystyle \lambda^\alpha = \lambda * \lambda^{(\alpha - 1)}\ if\ \alpha \ge 1.\)
\(\displaystyle \lambda^{-\alpha} = \dfrac{1}{\lambda^\alpha}\ if\ \lambda \ne 0.\)
\(\displaystyle \lambda^\alpha * \lambda^\beta = \lambda^{(\alpha + \beta)}.\)
\(\displaystyle \dfrac{\lambda^\alpha}{\lambda^\beta} = \lambda^{(\alpha - \beta)}.\)
\(\displaystyle \left(\lambda^\alpha\right)^\beta = \lambda^{(\alpha * \beta)}.\)
\(\displaystyle \sqrt[\beta]{\lambda^\alpha} = \lambda^{(\alpha / \beta)}.\)
Give the problems a try with these laws. If you have ANY problems, please come back, show your work up to where you are stuck, and we shall be happy to help. If you want us to confirm your answers, we can do that as well.
