Hi! I really need help with this... I also need the work to prove that it's right so that I can understand how to do this in the future:

3/16=x/13

PLEASE HELP!!! I need to pass this in on the 19th!!!!:eek:

Forgot!

So far I have tried making 13 208 because it is a number that goes into 16... Nothing has worked.

You could multiply both sides of the equation by (16*13)...that is a common denominator for the two fractions. Each denominator will divide into (16*13), and you'll be left with an equation that has no fractions:

(16*13)*(3/16) = (16*13)*(x/13)

Now...each denominator divides into that multiplier, and you'll have this:

13*3 = 16*x

39 = 16x

Now, can you finish it?

To "prove" that your answer is correct, substitute the value you get for x in the original equation, and see if that value makes the equation true.

(Hint: if you are looking for a "nice" number...like a whole number....you'll be disappointed. The correct value of x is not a whole number, but that correct value WILL check.)

Thanks!

That was sooo helpful!!! I thought I was looking for a whole number because my teacher last year said not to put decimals over a fraction... I guess you have to though!!!! Thanks again!!! You are my savior!!!!:D
