alrighty i guess i found the answer to my own question on this one...just in case anyone is wondering, independant samples occur when there is NO correlation bt samples. Mutually exclusive means that it is impossible for them to occur together...if they have absolutely no correlation they can't have a negative correlation either...which throws out the mutually exclusive variables...at least thats the way i see it...give me some input if you have a different view.
