I have a word problem:
A group of 7 children were drawing pictures. Each of the first 6 children drew the same number of pictures, but the 7th child drew many more. The mean number of pictures per child was 6 and the range was 14. Use this information to determine how many pictures each child drew.
A) The first 6 children drew 5 pictures and the 7th child drew 20.
B) The first 6 children drew 4 pictures and the 7th child drew 18.
C) The first 6 children drew 5 pictures and the 7th child drew 17.
D) The first 7 children drew 5 pictures and the 7th child drew 18.
E) None of these.
X=the 7th child
y=6 children
range is y=x+14
this is what ive done so far:
6x+y=6
7
I mulitiplied both by seven which cancels out the 7 on the bottom which leaves
6x+x=42
7x=42
7 7
x=6
Then I plugged 6 into the range equation
y=6+14
y=20
I got E)none of these for my answer...can anyone help?
