OKAY I HAVE A 90 DEGREE TRIANGLE AND ONE LEG IS (B) THE BOTTOM IS (A=14) AND THE HYPOTENUSE IS (C=19) IT SAYS TO USE THE PYTHAGOREAN FORMULA BUT THAT DOESNT WORK - ITS IS HYPOTENUSE SQUARED = LONG SIDE SQUARED + SHORT SIDE SQUARED???? BUT WHEN I WORK IT I GET 12.8??? I DONT THINK THATS RIGHT....

The Pythagorean Theorem simply states that in a right triangle, the square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the lengths of the other two sides. It says nothing about longer or shorter.

So, the hypotenuse squared MINUS one leg squared equals the square of the other leg.

~12.8 is correct ; sqrt(165)
