It's been awhile since I was in school....Can someone help me out with this?

A 750 ml container holds a mixture of red, yellow, and white paint in a 5:3:12 ratio. How much more red paint than yellow is present in the mixture?

Thanks,
Allie

One way

All you need to do is add the all the ratios, so 5+3+12=20 and now that you know that just multiply the total volume by the ratio of yellow to the ratio of the whole container so, 750*(3/20)=112.5ml. Now find the amount of red the same way and subtract the amount of yellow from that and there is your answer.

Hope this helps

You can look at this this way:
out of 20 cups (or whatever), 3 are yellow, 5 are red and 12 are white.
If there are a total of 750 cups (large kitchen!), how many more red cups
than yellow cups is there?
