Store in two straight, circular, flat (glass) tubes liquid. Tubes P1 and P2 have the same volume and their lengths are L1 and L2 and diameters D1 and D2 = pD1, where 0 <p ≤ 1. Pipes for transport and storage packed horizontally in the same box of length L, height K = D1 and width S. The length of the tube P1 is measured as L1 = 200mm and the diameter D1 = 20mm.
a) What is the minimum length L of the box used for packing when p = 3/4?
b) What is the minimum width S of the box to be that both tubes are obtained to fit inside it when p = 3/4?
c) What is the value of the constant p (0 <p ≤ 1) that gives the volume of the box as much as possible small?
