Solve the following difference equations subject to the specified x values and
sketch the solutions:

(a) Xn - 5xn-1 + 6xn-2 = 0; X0 = 2, X1 = 5

I don't even know where to begin, can anyone point me in the right direction? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Then the place to start is with studying lessons on recurrence relations, so you will "know where to begin"! Try something like this.

Once you've studied at least two online lessons, please attempt this exercise. If you get stuck, you can then reply with a clear listing of your efforts so far. Thank you! ;)

You should "always" write down the first 4 or 5 terms, to see what hits you in the eye. (You will need those to check your final result, anyhow.) Another reference I found useful is

http://www.wikihow.com/Solve-Recurrence-Relations

which explained the steps more fully.
