Help with simplifing 2k + 15k - 9k

I am being asked to simplify the following and I want to know if I am doing it correctly or not. Please help!

. . .2k + 15k - 9k

If I do 2 + 15 - 9k = 8k, is that that how I figure that problem? Please let me know!

You have the idea, but your notation is no good. Use parentheses to clarify meaning.

(2+15-9)k = 8k

The way you have it, the 'k' magically abandoned the 2 and the 15, but somehow managed to stick with the 9. With the parentheses, 'k' still applies to all three values.
