help with percentages

Hi this is my first attempt @ a message board, please be patient w/me. I recently took an aptitude test for employment and could not remember how to find the percentage of a number, e.g.; 15% of 4.25. please help.

"Percent" means "parts per hundred"

15% is 15 parts per 100 parts
15% is 0.15 = 15 hundreths

15% of 4.25 -- Well, cut 4.25 into 100 parts, and take 15 of them. This is most easily done with multiplication. 0.15 * 4.25 = 0.6375
