Hi, I am wondering if you can help me solve this:

Jane is owed backpay from a contract for 2008, 2009 and 2010. Her starting pay at the time was $46,670 and each year of the contract there was an increase. 2008 - 1.75%, 2009 - 1.5% and 2010 - 2.0%. Can you please tell me how much backpay she is owed per year, as well as the total at the end of the 3 years?

Thanks

Hint: 46670 * .0175 = 816.725
If you don't understand that, then you're skipping math classes,
or your teacher is constantly hungover :shock:

Thanks for that comment.....I understand the simple multiplication of the percentages, but I wasn't sure about the total backpay at the end of the 3 years.
2008 - 816.725 = $47486.725 per year
2009 - 712.30 = $48199.025 per year
2010 - 963.98 = $49163.005 per year
Total = 2493.005

BUT this is where i get confused..... I went to check that math a different way and added all three of the increased yearly salaries together (what she should have got paid) and then subtracted 3 X 46670 (what she was actually paid), I get $4838.755. So which is the answer, $2493.005 or $4838.755???????
