A good search engine, like Google, makes it easy to find basic lessons and examples.

Click HERE to see some search results on keywords: convert repeating decimals to fractions

If you read something that you do not understand in your lessons, please feel free to post a specific question here. :cool:

i tried google already, but all the examples have all the numbers after the decimal repeating while this example only has one of the three numbers after the decimal repeating

all the examples have all the numbers after the decimal repeating

No they do not.

You gave up looking too soon.

Besides, the basic strategy is the same, regardless of what the actual decimal looks like.

I will post an example for you; give me a few minutes to type it all.

In the method that I am thinking of, we multiply the decimal by powers of ten so that the repeating parts subtract away.

Start by assigning a symbol to represent the given decimal.

Then multiply by powers of ten, to get the repeating parts to line up.

Subtract one equation from the other, as shown in the example below, and then solve for the symbol.

Reduce the resulting rational form, if possible.

Code:

Convert 0.21697697697697697… into rational form.

n = 0.21697697697697…

    100000n = 21697.697697697697…
_      100n =    21.697697697697…
    -----------------------------
     99900n = 21676

n = 21676/99900

The rational form is 5419/24975

thank you so much I figured out how to do it now and I hope I didn't trouble you too much

You are very welcome.

Relative to my life, you troubled me only a teensy-weensy amount.

:-D

PS: Unless you got 11/60, you're not done.
