Start by using the Distributive Property, to get rid of the parentheses on each side.

Then, continue by combining like-terms.

(Your goal is to isolate y all by itself, on one side.)
 
With prop of distributivity,
Left hand side equation becomes 2y+5y-5*4=7y-20
Right hand side equation is 4y-2y-2*(-10)=2y+20
Equating,
7y-2y=20+20
y=8
