okay dokey so here it is
x |3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
y | 8|15|24|35|48|63|
so thats the table and you are supposed to find the equation... im not sure where to start

anybody? this is my last math problem i just need some help.... i can help u in return to ... or least try please :)
 
What method are you supposed to use to find an equation through these points? Are you supposed to do a linear regression in your graphing calculator? Or something else? How far have you gotten?

well there is a list of equation that it could possibly and we have to pick witch graph... it doesn't matter how we get the answer i don't think...
this is what ive done so far....
ax^2+bx+c=y
and so i put in 3 for x and 8 for y
a3^2+b(3)+c=8 but im not sure that right
 
well i guess ill just get help from my friends at lunch tomarow
 
There is a long way to do it. You can graph the table and see which linear equation it looks like. It would be faster to graph on a calculator because it already has a table and you can just match it up! Hope it helps.

Will you be including this information at some point? (We can't see your book, so, until you tell us, we can't know what you're working with.) At the very least, you've compared the list of (x, y) points to the graphs, to see which graph(s) contain(s) those points, right?

yes i have compared the points and they don't match up.... i didn't give you that info because it is way to much to type up and anyways i don't need help with this problem anymore i was helped by skanking help :)
 
Did a little fiddling and figured it out . . .

The equation is:

y=x^2 - 1

I didn't do anything special; it was just trial and error
