Then the quotient (f(7+h)-f(7))/h can be simplified to (-1)/(ah+b) for:

Well, do it!

f(7) = 1/(7+8)
f(7+h) = 1/((7+h)+8)

If you "get" the part above, why did you not show us that? The rest is algebra. Build it and simplify it.
