Hello please forgive my intrusion. I'm been working days on this math problem it's vexing me. It doesn't seem to have a solution and could really use some help. I have an array which looks like this when filled in

09 04 08 04 07 = 32
07 09 15 07 05 = 43
03 02 09 10 09 = 33
05 03 05 06 04 = 23
____________ =
24 18 37 27 25 = 131

However the puzzle when empty looks like this.

x x x x x = 32
x x x x x = 43
x x x x x = 33
x x x x x = 23
_____________ =
24 18 37 27 25 = 131

I need an equation of some sort to fill in the unknowns (X's) and recreate the missing values
There appears to be some symmetry with the puzzle as the columns and row all add up to be the same which in this case is 131. If you separate them by every other row to perhaps break it down to make it easier to solve you get. You could also do this with the columns but simplicity I haven't written it here.

09 04 08 04 07 = 32 07 09 15 07 05 = 43

03 02 09 10 09 = 33 05 03 05 06 04 = 23
____________ ____________
12 06 17 14 16 = 65 12 12 20 13 09 = 86 < - using these givens in the puzzle is allowed but not the X's

If it is indeed unsolvable I would like to know but if it can what missing component can be add to achieve that goal?

Your help is very much appreciated and thank you!

Regards,

Tony

If you consider:

each missing cell as one variable and

each row summation as one equation and

each column summation as one equation, then

You need to solve for how many variables? With how many equations?
