[√(3+√5) - √(3-√5)]

What is the result of this equation? I don't have a clue how to calculate this thing. I need to express it in a common logarithm form. (given log2 = 0.3010) Please help me.

Hello, kmj764!

Please give us the original wording of the problem.
As stated, nothing makes sense!

\(\displaystyle \left[\sqrt{3+\sqrt{5}} - \sqrt{3-\sqrt{5}}\right]\)

What is the result of this equation? .[1]
I don't have a clue how to calculate this thing. .[2]
I need to express it in a common logarithm form. .[3]
Given: log2 = 0.3010 .[4]

[1] First of all, it is not an equation.
. . .Second, an equation does not have a "result".

[2] Not a clue?
. . .How about using a calculator?

[3] "Express in common logarithm form" makes no sense.
. . . How do you "express 7 in common logarithm form"?
. . . . . Maybe: \(\displaystyle 7\,=\,10^{\log7}\) . . . but that's silly!

[4] Why log of 2?
. . . The final value turns out to be \(\displaystyle 2\sqrt{2}\)
. . . but why would we want the log of it?
