Just the normal way? As normal as combining like terms and simplifying?

Lets see what we have:

\(\displaystyle \L -2r\,+\,3\,\,=\,\,r\,-\,12\)

Start by combining like terms on one side or the other; I would move all the constants to one side and all the terms containing r, to the other. Add 3 to both sides so that you have:

\(\displaystyle \L -2r\,\,=\,\,r\,-\,15\)

.....can you continue? Remember, what you do to one side you must do to the other.

so u would get -15

-15 on one side, but r does not equal -15, because......

\(\displaystyle \L -2r\,\,=\,\, r - 15\)

\(\displaystyle \L -2r\,-\,r\,\,=\,\,- 15\)

\(\displaystyle \L -3r=\,\,- 15\)

\(\displaystyle \L \frac{-3r}{-3}=\,\,\frac{-15}{-3}\)

\(\displaystyle \L r\,\,=\,\,5\)

It looks like you may need one-on-one help in this area of math - I would advice talking with your teacher about what you can do to get some extra help.
