help me reduce 4x over 4x+8

x
-----
x+2

see the original problem is
4x
----
4x+8

we can see that every number is divisible by 4

so if we divide 4/4 and 8/4 we have:
x
-----
x+2

to check it substitute a number for x in both equations. they should be the same at the end

For goodness sake. You can see everything is divisible by 4. Divide by 4.

\(\displaystyle \L\\\frac{\frac{4x}{4}}{\frac{4x}{4}+\frac{8}{4}}=\frac{x}{x+2}\)

but you cant divide unless everythings connected through multiplication and its not.
How do you figure that?

. . . . .\(\displaystyle \L \frac{4x}{4x\, +\, 8}\, =\, \frac{4(x)}{4(x\, +\, 2)}\)
