2/5(x+1)+3/5(x+1)=14

2/5x+2/5+3/5x+3/5=14

5/5x+5/5=14

-5/5=-5/5

5/5x=13

devide by 5/5 on both sides

x=13

2/5(13+1)+3/5(13+1)=14

2/5(14)+3/5(14)=14

5 2/3+8 2/5 =14

I get 14 and 1/15 wich is not right.

help please

Hello, everlastingluvr!

\(\displaystyle \frac{2}{5}(x+1)+\frac{3}{5}(x+1)\:=\:14 \)

\(\displaystyle \frac{2}{5}x+\frac{2}{5}+\frac{3}{5}x+\frac{3}{5} \:=\:14 \)

\(\displaystyle \frac{5}{5}x+\frac{5}{5} \:=\:14\)

What in the world are you doing?
. . Don't you know that: .\(\displaystyle \frac{5}{5} = 1\:?\)

You have: .\(\displaystyle x + 1 \:=\:14\)

Therefore . . .
