Instructions: Rewrite the verbal expression into an algebraic expression.
Question: 49 increased by twice a number
Concerns: I'm not sure if the answer is: 49+2n or 2n+49 or if it could be anything else.
Thank you. :)

I'm not sure if the answer is: 49+2n or 2n+49

Either expression is okay because they both represent exactly the same value.

Have you heard about something called The Commutative Property of Addition ?

It tells us that adding values in a different order makes no difference.

1 + 2 is exactly the same value as 2 + 1

42 + 2n is exactly the same value as 2n + 49

Oh, I suppose you could also write:

49 + n + n

but that's not what your instructor wants to see, so don't. 8-)
