Andy and Erin placed a board game threee times. Their scores are shown in the table below.

Andy Game Erin
248 1 219
198 2 236
272 3 ?

How many points did Andy score in all - we arrived at 718

the next question asks - Erin scored just as many total points as Andy. How many points did Erin score in Game 3

the difference in points between Andy and Erin in Game 1 is + 29 versus -38 in game 2 leaving a differnce of 9
do we multiple 9 * 3 to get 27 and add that to the 236?

how do we solve this problem?

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Andy has gained 718 points. Erin has yet gained 455 points. That means there are missing 718 - 455 points to get the same result as Andy.

That's all.

Let's keep this as simple as possible...this is for a 3rd grader, after all!!

You correctly added the points scored in all three games by Andy, to get a total of 718.

Now...how many points has Erin earned in the first two games? She scored 219 in the first game, and 236 in the second game. So her total after TWO games is 219 + 236. 219 + 236 = ???

We know that her total for all three games is to be the same as Andy's total, or 718 points. How many points will she need in game 3 to end up with 718 points?

I just wanted to say thank you. I was pounding my head and now that I see your answer all I can say to myself is DUH!
