Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and just anted to say hi and see what this forum is all about. I guess I can start with a math question that I am stuck on.:confused:
Here is a link:

http://education-portal.com/academy/lesson/what-is-a-system-of-equations.html

at the bottom of the question there is a video that is supposed to explain it , but I still can't figure it out. The correct answer is (3,4) but I can't figure out how to get there. It is a question dealing with systems of equations. I highly appreciate the help, because I want to understand this to get a degree. Thank you.

This board automatically linked the words "systems of equations" in your post to a lesson with examples on this website. Short of writing a similar lesson over again, it would be hard to help you unless you give some specifics about what you do not understand, or where you get stuck in the process.

You need to read the rules of this forum. Please read the post titled "Read before Posting" at the following URL:

We can help - we only help after you have shown your work - or ask a specific question (not a statement like "Don't know any of these")

Please share your work with us indicating exactly where you are stuck - so that we may know where to begin to help you.

Whoa!, big mistake there guys. I feel dumb.

I am sorry . I directed to that link with the question up but it automatically went to the default setting with the beginning of the video. I am very sorry about that.
The question is about system of equations. The question that doesn't make sense is thusly.

y=3x-5 and y=-2x+10

The answer is (3,4) for (x,y). I can't see how this is the answer. I was wondering if someone might write out the problem step by step for me.That would be fantastic. I thought I understood this ,but I guess I don't. Thank you all who were going to answer this ,but couldn't because of my mistake , and thank yu to any answerers in advance.

Solved it.

Well besides the fact that this stupid website only posted half of what I wrote to correct to the first mistake, I have solved the answer. Thank you to all who tried to help ,but couldn't because of my first mistake and the website's mistake. The question was a system of equations question, and the problem presented was
y=3x-5 and y=-2x+10
I was to combine and solve for x and y which is where the equations would converge on a graph.
The answer I knew was three and four as the website has a multiple choice question, but that does not help with understanding. So as I was instructed I combined the two equations by putting the equations together because out y axis point would be the same, so than all that was left was to solve for x using inverse operations. So I did this by eliminating the first co-dependant by subtratcing it against itself and the other codependant thusly.

y=3x-5=y=-2x+10
-3 -3
Which gave me this
-5=-5x+10
Here is where I always messed up as I neglected to mulitply by the reciprocal. I tried subtracting and division over and over to my frustration because I was confused as the the proper procedure. After watching the video over and over it finally clicked that I am supposed to multiply the reciprocals. Like this.

-5=-5x+10

-5/1 *1/5 and -5/1 *1/5 and 10/1 * -1/5
which canceled my remaining co-dependent as well as the number left on the left side of the equation which still left me with the following

which left me with the figure 2 and x
I than thought I had my x figure so I tried to plug this back into y=3x-5 which I knew was wrong because I already knew the answer was (3,4) So I scratched my head and went back a step when I had the epiphany that the the x must have a value of one so I did that making my value three and that worked. I found my Y value as four as I knew it was supposed to be and cried from sheer joy :'O. Here is how I did the last part.

y=3 * 3-5=4 so Y=4 which gave me x=3 and y=4 which is what the website said was correct.

I am wondering know if someone can go over my work and check to see if it is correct, and also I had to assume that when multiplying reciprocals to eliminate codependents that negative or positive doesn't matter. Is this correct. Other wise I need to go back and try to solve again and I can't see any other way to solve the equation. Thank you in advance for any help and proof checking.
