I am currently learning to graph lines in Algebra 2. I am trying to use a TI-83 Plus graphing calculator to help me check my work, but I just got it and I don't know how to use it very well. I have figured out that I know how to graph lines that start with a positive term like Y=X+4 or Y=2X-1, but I can't figure out how to do lines that start with a negative term or have fractions in them, such as Y=-X+10, or Y=-6/5X-2/5 and my calculator keeps giving me a 'ERR: Syntax' message.

Can someone please give me step-by-step instructions on how to enter negative equations and equations containing fraction into my calculator correctly? I would really appreciate any help with this, because I didn't find much on the internet.

If I remember correctly, the TI83 calculator has a "negative" key (so that "2" and then the "negative" key gives -2) other than the "subtraction" key. Surely the manual that came with the calculator talks about that? If you can't find that then, to enter "Y= -X+ 10" You can
1) enter "Y= (-1)*X+ 10"
2) enter "Y= 0- X+ 10" or
3) enter "Y= 10- X"

I do have a manual, it's just not very helpful. I get that if you change the order of the numbers you will get the same answer, but my question is, HOW DO YOU ENTER A FRACTION that is crucial to the equation? I can't find the answer in my manual or in the link you gave me.
