how does one sketch graphs of functions such as x^2 - e^x? i know that you must first sketch the graphs x^2 and -e^x; but then what? how are they combined? i'm talking sketching here, it can't be that complicated.

That's what graphing calculators are for. In this day and age, are they still making students graph by hand?. :roll:

But, if you must do it by hand. Plug in values and plot them.

x=0, y=-1

x=1, y=1-e=-1.72

x=2, y=4-e^2=-3.39

And so on.

\(\displaystyle Yes \ Cody,\ I \ think \ it's \ more \ understandable \ & \ helpful . \ We \ are \ supposed \ to \ grapgh \ any \ function \ by \ hand .\)

Find the :
1. Domain & Range
2. Intervals of increase/decrease
3. max./min values
4. intercepts
5. limits
6. asymptotes
