Hello, all. First time here. Looking for some help setting up my golf league schedule. I'm aiming for something fairly complex, but not sure if I can pull it off. Sure would appreciate it if someone here is able to help out.
Objective: to create a 12 player golf league schedule that meets specific parameters
Parameters: 9 week duration; each week has 3 groups of 4 golfers (foursome); each golfer plays against 1-3 opponents per week (match or matches); opponents must be in that week's foursome; every golfer plays every other golfer at least once; balanced schedule*
Balanced Schedule defined: any two golfers in the same division play identical (besides themselves) sets of opponents
My progress to date:
Format is to have 3 divisions of 4 golfers: Division X (Golfers A,B,C,D); Division Y (Golfers E,F,G,H); Division Z (Golfers I,J,K,L)
For weeks 1-8, golfer (x) will play one division opponent and one non-division opponent each week (16 total matches); week 9 golfer (x) will play a single division opponent (1 match); Total for weeks 1-9 = 9 divisional matches + 8 non-divisional matches = 17 total matches
Example: Golfer A will play one match per week (for weeks 1-8) against each of non-divisional Golfer (E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L). Golfer A will play one match per week (for weeks 1-9) against a divisional golfer (B,C,D), for a total of 3 times each.
Every foursome (weeks 1-8) will have 2 golfers from each of 2 divisions. Golfers from the same divisions play each other; each golfer plays against one of the non-division golfers.
Week 1:
Foursome I: A/B/E/F | AvB, AvE, BvF, EvF (v=versus)
Foursome II: C/D/K/L | CvD, CvK, DvL, KvL
Foursome III: G/H/I/J | GvH, GvI, HvJ, IvJ
Weeks 2-8:
(herein lies the math?)
Week 9:
Foursome I: A/B/C/D | AvD, BvC
Foursome II: C/D/E/F | CvF, DvE
Foursome III: G/H/I/J | GvJ, HvI
There are many "Round Robin" schedulers available, but I haven't been able to find one that can solve for this. Anybody here want to take a crack at it? Let me know if there are any questions or if you have a better way to meet the parameters of the league schedule. Thank you in advance for the help!
