Given that x = |y|, express in terms of y.

Re: x = |y|, y = ?

Hello, tdotgirl!

How do i express \(\displaystyle \,x \,= \,|y|\) in terms of \(\displaystyle y\) ?

You are correct . . .

\(\displaystyle x\,=\,|y|\) means: \(\displaystyle \,\begin{Bmatrix}x\:=\:y \\ x\:=\:-y\end{Bmatrix}\) which means: \(\displaystyle \,\begin{Bmatrix}y \:=\:x \\ y\:=\:-x\end{Bmatrix}\;\;\Rightarrow\;\;\L\fbox{y\:=\:\pm x}\)

The graph looks like this:
Code:
        |
        |       *
        |     *
        |   *
        | *
      --*------------
        | *
        |   *
        |     *
        |       *
        |
