I don’t understand how to apply the Pythagorean theorem to these questions.

I assume your question is about #4

1) expand (15+x)² using (a + b)² = a² + b² + 2*a*b

2) Now simplify the equation you created.

1296 + 225 = (x+15)²
1521 = (x+15)²
39 = x+15
x=24
