Hi, there is a question on my packet involving Proportions it is...

X-3/9 = 1/X+5

This is how I tried solving it...

(X+5)(X-3) cross multiplied which gave me... x squared + 2x-15

then I cross multiplied 1 times 9 which is 9.

I now have x squared + 2x-15=9

then i got x squared + 2x = 24.

where do i go from here?!? I'm sorry I learned this in Algebra 1 this past year but I forgot everything over the summer :/

We type x-squared as x^2.

x^2 + 2x - 24 = 0

The polynomial factors; set each factor equal to zero, and solve for x.

Here are some lessons on factoring quadratic polynomials: GOOGLE Search Results.

Ok thank you guys I actually remembered how to get the answer shortly after i posted my question. hahaha. Oh and sorry I'm new to this so i wasn't sure how to do the x^2.
