The general term is given. Determine whether the sequence is arithmetic, geometric, or neither. If the sequence is arithmetic, find the common difference; if the sequence is geometric, find the common ratio.

an= 4n-2
 
Where are you stuck? You've plugged in 1, 2, 3, 4,... for "n", getting the first few values of the sequence. You've tested (by subtraction and division) for arithmetic and geometric behavior. And... then what?

Please reply showing everything you've done thus far. Thank you.

an= 4n-2

The first few terma are 2, 6, 10, 14, 18,...making the sequence arithmetic.
