I'm taking college algebra, and right now I'm dealing with functions and graphs. here is my math problem. y=f(x)=0.012xsquared - 0.2x +8.7
what does the (f) stand for?

(f) doesn't stand for anything.

f(x) means we are about to define a function, named 'f', in terms of a variable, x.

f(x)=0.012xsquared - 0.2x +8.7 -- We just defined a function f, interms of x.

y=0.012xsquared - 0.2x +8.7 -- We have just established a relationship of two variables, x and y, suitable for graphing on x,y coordinate axis system/
