my solution:
substitue 3/4 for the x
x = 1- 2(3/4)
answer is -2

have i got i right

replace x with its value of 3/4
f[3/4]=1 - 2[3/4]
f[3/4]=1-3/2
f[3/4]=2/2 - 3/2
f[3/4]=-1/2 answer

I suggest you write the publisher telling him of the proof readers error.
errors in a text is not the error of the author, but of the publisher.
