Function

look up y=g(3) in the 2nd table

then look up f(y) in the first table

G(3) on the second table corresponds with 2 and the f(y) corresponds with 3...I don’t get it

well I’m not really thinking this through or I’m not understanding it.
[MATH]g(3) = 5.[/MATH] Right?

[MATH]f(5) = 4.[/MATH] Right?

[MATH]\therefore f(g(3)) = f(5) = 4.[/MATH]
It really is that simple. Do not complicate what does not need it. It is just PEMDAS in a new suit of clothes.

@Shelveen

Did you read this post?

From the second table:

at x = 3, g(x) = g(3) = 5

So now calculate (or look up) f(g(3)) or f(5)
To repeat: Since g(3) = 5 we have
f(g(3)) = f(5) = ??

Where are you not understanding? We can't help you if you don't tell us where you are having a difficulty. Are you saying you don't know how to get f(5)?

Okay this helped! I got it now thanks!

Remember that in g(x) we put a numerical value in for x, NOT g(x). So to find g(3) we immediately know that x=3!
