Fractal Tips

Hi there, it's not really a cry for help, more a discussion point.
I am just wondering if anyone here uses Apophysis or any other fractal creating program? I use Apo, and am looking for a good program to create Julia and Mandelbrots, particularly one where I can experiment with personal formulae.
Any pointers in the direction of a program would be appreciated. Also, I'm looking for tips on Apophysis if anyone has any.

Any tips for how to get good fractals though? I just can't seem to edit mine to be any good, I mean, the picture on the arcane is awesome!
