Having problems with remembering my algebra. It's been years.

I hope I type this right.

2/x^2+ x -1 = 4/x^2 +2/x -1

So I would have to multiply both sides by x^2 first giving me 2x^2/x^2+x-1=4+2x-x^2.

Then multiply both sides by x^2+x-1?

The way you have this written, if you multiply everything by \(\displaystyle x^2\) you will get \(\displaystyle 2+x^3 - x^2 = 4 + 2x -x^2\) as the result of the multiplication.
