If I tie a 1/4 ounce weight to the end of my fishing line will it sink faster, slower, or at the same rate as if I tied on a 1/8 weight to the end, and a second 1/8 ounce weight to another line attached to the main line??????
There is a common misperception that math is about everything that involves computation. A lot of computation depends on things that are not math. If you give this problem to a mathematician, he will say "First tell me the quantitative physical laws that are relevant; then I can do computations."
My intuition is that adding extra line increases drag and so slows the rate of descent, but this is not my field AT ALL.
