I need help with this problem:
4x - y + 3z = -2
3x + 5y - z = 15
-2x + y + 4z = 14

This is to be solved the Echelon method. Should I start with the x values or the y values? Can any one get me started?

Well, do it. Add twice row 3 to row 1 to get started. You may wish to exchange them, first.

...or simply add together row1 and row3, eliminating the "y".

Echelon? We're working in form, here, not a solution.

My bad; assumed that echelon meant "by elimination"...learned a new word today

To the corner .... to the corner .... right now.....

Truthfully, I would start with subtracting Row 2 from Row 1 and replacing Row 1 with the Difference. This would be directly consistent with the "row echelon" concept

Did you learn anything, from Soroban's completely worked-out solution to your other request for help with Gauss-Jordan?

If so, then you should be able to at least start this one.

If not, then start sending your homework assignments for completion directly to Soroban, using the Private-Message feature at this web site, instead of posting them on the boards.

Does Soroban pay you a commission for this?

Soroban gets paid ?!

Soroban does not need marketing from me; he clearly states on each of his posts that he completes homework assignments.
