finding the values of variables in angles!!??

i have no idea what the heck im doing, and im seriously about to cry.! im ok with algebraic equations like this: 3x-40=60 or something but these are just...
(3x-40) and (2x-10) and they're in angles but the angles are not congruent... so i have no idea how to do this!!!! help me pleeeez!! im desperate!!! asap??

If they are on a line they would add to 180°.
If they are in a right triangle they would add to 90°. Those are the most common.
