Finding the percent

SAT verbal scores are normally distributed with a mean of 426 and a standard deviation of 94. Using the Empirical Rule to determine what percent of the scores lie between 332 and 426.

426 - 94 = 332

The scores between 332 and 426 lie within one stardard deviation below the mean. Therefore, these scores represent half of the scores that lie within one standard deviation from the mean (the "lower" half).

Since the scores all follow a normal distribution, the Empirical Rule gives us the percent (of all scores) that lie within one standard deviation from the mean. If you need to see the Empirical Rule, click HERE.
