g(a)=a3+5
f(a)=4a-4

Find (g/f)(a)

I would do (a^3+5)/(4a-4) but I know that it can't be correct.

Also, there's one that is (f-g)(x), how would that look?

f(x) = x3+x2
g(x) = x-3

Why can't it be right?
Use the same method for the second problem.

Well (f/g)(a) is \(\displaystyle \frac{a^3+ 5}{4a- 4}\) for a not equal to 1 and is undefined at a= 1. \(\displaystyle (f- g)(a)= (a^3+ 5)- (4a- 4)= a^3- 4a+ 5+ 4= a^3- 4a+ 9\).
