find x for system of eqns x + 3y = 8, 2x - 9y = 7

In the system of equations....

x + 3y= 8
2x-9y=7

what is x?
What method(s) have you learned for solving systems of equations? What did you find when you graphed the two lines? Which method have you chosen for demonstrating the solution? How far have you gotten? Where are you stuck?

Please be complete. Thank you! :D

Re: Help please!!

Multiply both sides of the first equation by 3.
Add the two equations together. That should give you an equation with only the one variable, x. Solve for x and you have it.

In answer to your second question --- Neither.

x=7 and y=-5

lx-yl (absolute value)

would the answer be 2 or -12??
I'm sorry, but how does this relate to the system of equations that you are needing to solve...? :oops:

HELP THANKS!
'x' is an abstract concept, or place holder, representing a value or a number yet to be determined. 'y' is very similarly defined, but normally would represent some number or value other than the one represented by 'x'.

Re: Help please!!

What a weird thread...he's either asked 2 different questions...else smoking something weird...
