Hello, im having a bit of trouble with a big question at the end of my homework.

the question is "s+x = (y-x/y) -1" where I have to make "y" to subject of the forumla

Im usually fine but since is has multiple "y"s in the formula plus that pesky minus 1 im having some trouble

The messy answer I have arrived at is y = sy + xy + x + y but im sure thats not right, any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

There is a small mistake in your formulation:

s + x = (y - x)/y -1 [watch that placement of () for correct mathematical hierarchy of operation]

sy + xy = (y-x) - y [here you multiplied "both sides" of "=" by y]

sy + xy = y - x - y

sy + xy = - x [we have "y - y" → 0]

Now factor out "y" on the left-hand-side and continue....
