Your calculator can tell you the sine of 56 degrees; and the definition of the sine will tell you the sine of an angle in a right triangle whose opposite side is 12 units and hypotenuse 36 units. But these will be two different numbers. The latter will not give you the former.
I suspect you have made some mistake already in working on a larger problem. Please tell us the entire problem, as given to you, and show your work up to this point. Then we can better understand what you are doing and why, and where the error lies.
Assuming your values are correct then sin(56) = opposite/ hypotenuse = 12/35 = 1/3. There must be a reason you posted this problem. Possibly because you knew that sin(56) is not 1/3. Then at least one of the three values you stated is wrong. The only way we can help you find your error is if you give us the whole problem. Do you understand that?
