An airplane travels in a northwesterly direction at a constant speed of 250 miles per hour, due to a wind from the west of 50 miles per hour. How fast would the plane habe gone if there had been no wind?

I need the set up. I know the law of cosines is used here but don't know how to set it up. I am also having trouble drawing a picture that represents the situation.

Please post some example problems (with solutions that you fully understand) from your text-book -so that we know where to begin to explain.
