47% of the population is male. Male tell the truth 78% of the time. Women tell the truth only 63% of the time. Calculate the probability that someone is telling you the truth.
Is my method of doing this correct?
Males in the population telling the truth: (.78*.47) = 0.3666
Females in the population telling the truth: (.63*.53) = 0.3339
Probability of a Female or a Male telling you the truth: (.3666 + .3339) - (.3666*.3339) = 0.57809
Therefore there is a 58% probability that someone will tell you the truth.
