I'm trying to find where these two equations intersect:

-x^2+4x+2 and x+1

I need to integrate to find the area between the two but I cannot figure out where they intersect. Basic math tells me they intersect at (4,5) but I know they intersect at -x somewhere also. I've set them equal to one another and simplified and tried to factor but I do not know how to factor -x^2+3x+1. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Points of Intersection

Those are not equations. They are expressions. Be that as it may, the intersection(s) of two equations in one unknown can be determined by solving the equations simultaneously.
