domain and range:

((y+1)^2)/4 - ((x-2)^2)/16 = 1

i know the center is (-1,2)
the a-value is 2
the b-value is 4
the domain is all real numbers...
but what is the range????

Re: domain and range

Find those vertices and it should become obvious.

I think you have the wrong coordinates for the center. Shouldn't it be (2, -1)?

Pay attention to which center coordinate is associated with x, and which is associated with y.

Now....with the center and the lengths of the semi-major and semi-minor axis, you should be able to sketch the graph, and from the graph, the range should be pretty obvious.
