find distance between points algebraically

I have a problem in which I have to find the distance between the points algebraically and verify graphically. My points are (1/2 , 4/3) and (2 , -1). I have plugged it into the distance formula and tried it 3 times but cannot come up with the right answer. Any suggestions?
 
\| (-1- (4/3))^2+ (2-(1/2))^2) = 7.69 is that what you got? it seems to big though, but im not sure
