Rule: a^(-x) = 1 / a^x

So 3x^(-1/2) = 3 / x^(1/2)

Can you carry on?

You should end up with 9 / (2x^(1/2))

The answer to the problem is 3(x+2) / 2x ^ 1/2 .... I did switch the - exponent.. but I'm not coming out with the answer..

Lyna, that is NOT equal to your original expression: 3x ^ -1/2 + 3/2x^ 1/2

Either your book gives wrong answer, or there is something wrong
with your original expression: is it typed properly ?
